Every retired smartphone is a marvel we throw away. Inside each one: a neural-processing unit, a cellular modem, GPS, a microphone array, a speaker, a battery, a screen, sensors — the exact parts a $400 edge-AI development board is built to recreate, already integrated and already paid for. Then it goes in a drawer, a landfill, or a shredder.
Billions of them. The compute is nearly free on the secondary market, and we're burning it. That's not a waste problem. It's a supply the whole industry can't see because it's labelled "trash."
02 · The insight
A recycled phone is an edge-AI node
Our whole thesis is AI that runs on the device — no cloud, no subscription, no signal required. That makes a used phone the ideal home for it: it already carries the silicon, and it runs our app natively — no board bring-up, no custom hardware, just a link.
The greenest inference is the one that never books a server — running on hardware that was headed for the landfill.
And because our software self-tiers — sensing whether it's on a flagship or a hand-me-down and right-sizing the model to match — a mismatched fleet of recycled phones is exactly what it's built for. Most edge-AI assumes one shiny target. Ours thrives on the pile.

04 · On the trail
The solar call-box that helps when the map ends
Picture a hardened box at a remote trailhead, powered by the sun, running a recycled phone. A hiker comes back hurt and can't work a touchscreen. They walk up and say what's wrong — and the on-device AI turns their words into a structured call for help: what happened, how many people, and their exact coordinates.

Green, public, and honest — in one object
This isn't a product chasing a market. It's a working demonstration that on-device AI can do real good on hardware the world calls garbage: reuse instead of manufacture, sunlight instead of a data centre, a call for help for anyone — and every claim measured, every limit stated. The kind of thing on-device AI should be for.
We don't need to sell a smarter beacon. We need to show what the pile can become.
